At House of Diamonds, cultural identity is one of our core commitments — not just in the textiles we use or the techniques we preserve, but also in the way we live and work together. One of the most joyful ways we celebrate our shared identity is through food.

Indonesian food isn’t just something we eat — it’s something that brings us together. Our artisans often gather around the table to share meals, tell stories, and connect over plates of beloved local dishes. For many of us, these moments of togetherness are just as meaningful as the work we do stitching, weaving, and crafting.

If you’ve ever visited Indonesia, you’ll know that the food here is rich, diverse, and absolutely unforgettable. Here are some of the House of Diamonds team’s favorite dishes …

Bakmi

Bakmi is a delicious noodle dish, often stir-fried or served in a savory broth with chicken, vegetables, and fragrant spices. It is a favourite comfort food!

Bakso

Bakso is Indonesia’s famous meatball soup — hearty, flavorful, and often served from street carts with steaming hot broth, vermicelli noodles, and a splash of spicy sambal. It’s affordable and incredibly satisfying.

Nasi Goreng

If Indonesia had a national dish, it might just be nasi goreng — fried rice cooked with sweet soy sauce, garlic, shallots, and chilies, often topped with a fried egg. It’s a staple in nearly every Indonesian household.

Satay

Grilled over charcoal and served with rich peanut sauce, sate is skewered meat at its finest. Whether it’s chicken, beef, or goat, the smoky flavor and tender texture make it a favourite. And the smell, simply divine!

Gado-Gado

For something fresh and vibrant, we love gado-gado — a mixed vegetable salad with tofu, tempeh, boiled eggs, and a generous drizzle of peanut dressing. It’s a healthy, flavorful dish! Yum!

Nasi Campur

Nasi campur, or “mixed rice,” is a plate of white rice served with a variety of side dishes: meats, vegetables, sambal, and fried delights. No two plates are the same, reflecting the diversity of Indonesia’s culinary landscape.

Soto Ayam

Every culture seems to have a version of chicken soup, and Soto Ayam is ours! A fragrant soup flavored with turmeric, lemongrass, and lime, soto ayam is light, refreshing, and often enjoyed as a comforting lunch. The bright yellow broth is both nourishing and delicious.

Food as a Connector

At House of Diamonds, eating together is about more than just the food — it’s about connection. Shared meals allow us to bond as a team, celebrate our heritage, and create memories that nourish the soul as much as the body.

We believe that food is an essential expression of cultural identity, just like the batik patterns we stitch or the ikat fabrics we weave. When you wear a House of Diamonds product, you’re wrapped not only in Indonesian craft, but also in the spirit of a community that knows the joy of gathering, eating, and living together.

If you ever visit Indonesia, come and join us for a meal!
